Bahrain Souks
Bahrain is an archipelago of 33 islands in the Gulf of Persia. The island occupies a prominent location in the Middle East. This country which does not share borders with any neighbor has been influenced by the neighboring countries in the region. One of the interesting places for tourists to visit is the Bahrain Souks.
Visitors and tourists to Bahrain are amazed by the shopping experience they have here. Though there are a number of shopping malls and supermarkets in Bahrain, most of the people still prefer going to Bab el-Bahrain or the souk or souq, as the traditional market is known. The souk’s narrow lanes are full of merchants and merchandise and each lane has shops catering to a specialty. Here, at the Bahrain souks, you will find stalls lined up and vendors inside them advertising their ware – it could be crafts, fruits, spices, buckets and bowls, or clothing. There is a cardinal rule while shopping here in the souk – do not pay the tag price, but haggle. Bargaining is the norm here – the shoppers know it and the shopkeepers expect it.
You will find the souk bustling with locals and tourists in the evening time – with everyone looking for a good bargain. It is not just general merchandise but you can even buy gold or pearls here. One of the most popular shopping areas is the gold souk where you will find dozens of gold and jewelry shops offering a range of ornaments with beautiful designs to suit your style and your purse. You will be able to see a lot of traditional jewelry here. It is said that the gold in Bahrain is of good quality and cheap and hence, people from the neighboring regions also come here to buy gold.
No trip to Bahrain is complete without a visit to the Bahrain souks!
