Bahrain Mosques

Bahrain is a beautiful and scenic island nation situated in the Persian Gulf. Bahrain sees a heavy inflow of tourists every year, and many tourists come here to spend their vacation by relaxing and taking in the scenic splendor of the island. The Al-Fateh Mosque which is also known as the Al-Fateh Grand Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world with an area of 150,000 square meters and is capable of accommodating more than 7,000 worshippers at a time. This mosque is located on the King Faisal Highway in the town of Juffair near Manama and very close to the Royal Bahraini Palace. The mosque is named after Ahmed Al Fateh, the conqueror of Bahrain. Besides being a place of worship, the mosque is a great tourist attraction. This mosque is believed to be one of the oldest relics of Islam in the area. The mosque is to open to non-Muslims also, but not during prayer times. However, the visitors to any of the Bahrain mosques must be decently dressed and women must wear a head scarf.

The Al-Khamis Mosque which is located in Manama is the oldest mosque in Bahrain. The mosque, which was in ruins, has been renovated and is open to visitors. The name Al-Khamis means Thursday, which may mean that it could have been the market day in the area. This mosque is open to non-Muslim visitors on all days, except Fridays.
