Bahrain World Trade Center

The Bahrain World Trade Center is a 240 meter high twin tower complex located in Manama, the capital of Bahrain. It is also known as Bahrain WTC or BWTC. The towers were built in 2008, and it is the first skyscraper in the world to combine wind turbines into its design. The idea of the design behind the Bahrain World Trade Center makes it the first building of its type in the world.

The 50-floor structure is constructed very close to the King Faisal Highway and other prominent landmarks. The Bahrain WTC offers a very beautiful view of the Arabian Gulf. There are two triangular shaped towers which go to a height of 240 meters which stand on a three storey podium. Each podium provides 34 floors of office space and has an exclusive viewing deck on the 42nd floor. The podium accommodates a shopping centre, restaurants, a food court, hotel space for the Hotel Sheraton, business centre, and car parking. The podium has a one storey extension to the present shopping mall giving a total floor space of 16,500 sq ms. Three levels of covered car parking are available within the podium with additional parking in the basement.

What is unique to the Bahrain World Trade Center is the provision of three 29 meter diameter wind turbines which are horizontally supported between the towers. The turbines produce 11-15% of the total electrical consumption of the building. The shape of the towers regulates the airflow through the turbines and thus improves their function and optimizes energy output. The BWTC has been described as Bahrain’s first truly intelligent building which has a number of features. High-speed broadband internet access, internet telephony, and wireless are available in the towers.

When you are in Bahrain, you must see the Bahrain World Trade Center – you just cannot to miss it. Miss it and it will be a regret of a lifetime.
