The King Fahd Causeway is a bridge that connects Bahrain with Saudi Arabia. Construction of this causeway commenced in 1968 and completed in 1986, and it was then thrown open to the public. The causeway has a four-lane road which is 28 km (17 miles) long. The total cost of the project was US $ 1.2 billion which was entirely financed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This bridge which is one of the popular places of sightseeing has made travel easy between the two countries.
The King Fahd Causeway which connects the large city of Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia with Bahrain has been hailed as one of the technical marvels of modern engineering. The causeway is actually a combination of several bridges and dams. It is the second largest causeway in the world and it consists of two lanes in either direction. The causeway can only be crossed by big vehicles and two wheelers and pedestrians are not allowed over it. You will find a service facility area including an elevated restaurant on the causeway from where you can have a stunning view of the sea.
